For those who enjoy classes where you can build your knowledge and skill over several weeks, this is a great way to learn Tellington TTouch and practice at home as you go. Classes are in a lecture/demonstration format and include hands on experience with selected animals chosen for the class. The sample outlines for the classes, shown below, will give you an overview of what we cover in class.
Classes are intended to give participants a well-rounded introduction to the Philosophy, Techniques and Application of Tellington TTouch for both the companion animals and horses. Classes have been held at local colleges, such as A-B Tech in Asheville, NC and Blue Ridge Community College in Flat Rock, NC at retreats, Dog Day Care Center and private barns or homes. If you would like to host a TTouch class at your barn, club, doggie day care or training center, contact me at my e-mail address, Christine@TTouchandTLC.com.
Two current classes are:
This introductory class will allow the student to understand how the method developed, the basis for the concept and the practical knowledge of how to put TTouch to work on their animals.
 I. The Concept and Philosophy Students will learn how Linda Tellington-Jones developed the TTouch and the basic philosophy of education vs. training and cooperation vs. dominance. Participants will provide a profile of their animal so that we can discuss how TTouch can provide solutions to issues concerning behavior and health over the course of class.
II. What is Tellington TTouch We will discuss what TTouch is and what it is not. The mind/body unit, the connection between pain or trauma and learning and how intent influences outcome are explained and demonstrated. Why is TTouch called the Touch that Teaches? How does touch affect learning and behavior?
III. TTouch - the Technique The basic touch will be described, demonstrated and practiced during this class. This is when the student gets to experience what the animals will be feeling. Here also is the introduction to the use of our intuition in the practice of TTouch. Students work on each other and discuss feedback on what they are feeling.
IV. Application of the TTouch At this time, we will discuss behavior, athletic performance and general health problems facing our animals and will learn specific touches for transforming these issues. Selected animals will be brought to class in order to demonstrate and get feedback on the way that we communicate with our hands. We learn to listen to what they have to say. A variety of different types of animals will be used based on what types are available.
V. The Tool Box TTouch uses specific aids and tools, such as the wand and the body wrap, to aid the animals with awareness and clarity regarding the new information we are giving them. This is part of establishing a new language between ourselves and our animals. One or more of the tools will be demonstrated on animals brought to class to get an understanding of how to introduce these foreign ideas to our pets.
VI. The Confidence Course Introduction to the obstacles that make up the confidence course and the playground of higher learning show ways to incorporate fun into the learning process.
VII. Practice makes perfect This week students will work or watch work being done on more animals. This week will be used to practice and improve skills. Ask lots of questions.
VIII. Putting it all together Students will be arranged in groups and given a brief case history of an animal with a behavioral or physical to discuss and provide solutions using the TTouch techniques and philosophy. A final wrap up will review the material covered over the six weeks.
